What is GameEire.Com?

As the successor to IrishGaming..Com, GameEire.Com has very similar purposes. To be glib, it is a start. It's is an attempt to provide some small services for gamers in Ireland, which we then hope will grow into larger services for gamers in Ireland. We cater for all Irish gamers, and aren't affiliated to any organisation. Of course, if non-Irish gamers want to take a look, the site is open to them too. (If you don't know what we mean by gamers, you might want to skip ahead to the what is gaming section) For now, GameEire.Com is a modest web resource run by a small group of people. Here is a brief description of the services we currently provide.

1. Convention Calendar
The status of games conventions has risen greatly over the past few years. In order to help promote both the new and more established cons and to help people plan their gaming year , we provide a calendar facility. We invite organisers of any Irish con to enter their details in the calendar, which is searchable by month. It is hoped that this will provide greater recognition for conventions with a less established reputation, as well as providing easy access to information for the public.

2. Mailing List
At time of writing, the igaming mailing list has been active for almost two years. During that time it has seen debates on topics ranging from the merits of non-system to system games to how much detail scenario writers should provide as well as no small measure of social chit-chat and banter. The aim of the igaming list is to provide a forum for discussion between gamers on gaming related matters, and it is open to all applicants. It is also intended to set up a second list soon, which shall function purely as an announcement service with respect to gaming events.

3. Hosting
GameEire.Com provides web space for a number of Irish Gaming interests. Examples include Paradigm Games (producers of the Dark Obsidian role-playing game), and the Camarilla organisation (a Live Action Role-playing group based on White Wolf's Vampire: the Masquerade).

4. Scenario Bank
Very often people will want to play a quick game but don't have time to write a scenario. Equally, often writers don't want to consign the games they have worked so hard on to the bottom draw once they have been run. We provide a service for both groups with our scenario bank. Searchable by author or by genre, the bank currently holds in excess of sixty downloads, and is growing all the time. We are always happy to accept additional material from any writer who wishes to share their work with the world at large. In the past, material from the scenario bank has come to the attention of gamers as far away Japan!

As we stated earlier, this is a start. There are a number of other services which we hope to provide in the future. We have some very lofty goals for GameEire.Com. The main aim is to provide a community and framework for gamers in Ireland.
